Coyote Point Recreation Area is entertaining enough to visit just for the awesome playground and ‘beach.’ But what makes it more of an exercise adventure is that you can hop on the Bay Trail for a bike ride and then spend an hour watching huge international airplanes land across the water at SFO. Of course, you will not be able to go without letting your kids play at the Magic Mountain playground. I recommend parking near the Magic Mountain playground, since families with young kids will likely end their journey there. From the parking lot, find your way to the Bay Trail and head south. You'll pass a golf course, a Marina, and several spur trails which you can take to get closer to the water. As you continue to bike along the Bay Trail southbound, you can see the San Mateo Bridge. Turn back whenever you please and head back to Coyote Point. Hit the beach, be amazed by the enormous aircraft overhead and watch your kids have a blast going down the huge Magic Mountain slide!
Bathrooms
Yes, several located throughout Coyote Point Rec. Area
Playground
Yes, a HUGE one.
Kid transportation
Bikes recommended for the Bay Trail. Strollers would also work. There are a couple of park road crossings so young bikers will need assistance.
Suggested Route
Park near the Magic Mountain Playground in Coyote Point Recreation Area. Find the Bay Trail (runs just south of the parking lot). Head south (away from the airport) on the Bay Trail. The trail will run alongside a golf course, then pops out along the Bay. Go as far as you'd like then turn around and head to the playground. It is also fun to explore the trails that run near the Marina.
