Hiking on the Skyline Trail from Sunnyvale Mountain Trailhead in Sanborn County Park provides a nice, quiet, shady hike through the woods, with a kid-friendly inclination. There aren’t spectacular viewpoints along this route, but if you’re looking for a walk through the woods while it is hot in San Jose, this trail is a nice escape. My route recommendation is to take the Skyline trail northeast from the trailhead then at the fork with the John Nicholas Trail, go left to continue north on the Skyline trail. Venture as far as you would like, then turn around! Along the route there are some neat rock structures, as well as a strange looking tree that is filled with concrete.
